I think it's better to avoid the long-shadow and only-flat fads. A design should be effective without the noisy textures, and without decoration trends.

I try to use proper colors and shapes enough to communicate what is required. If it needs to scream more, I add decoration from there and hope I don't do it in excess and ruin everything. I never start a design from a design/decoration trend.
