This is much better in 2x. Client wanted the "ass of the ass" to line-up between "Good" and "BBQ" which makes total sense, but definitely complicated the design. They also wanted different lettering than my hand-drawn from the original. All in all I think it turned out really nice. Definitely a fun project to work on!

@Steely Well, I really did like your previous attempt, but I know that sometimes, you just need to do what the client wants.
Having said that, I can totally appreciate how difficult it was for you to incorporate these requests, but I think you did a great job.
The new typeface looks very Barbequey, and the colors are great. I do like the placement of the ass between "Good" and "BBQ," although I'm a little unclear as to why your client was so adamant about focusing on the ass of the ass. I think it's actually pretty funny, but is there more of a BBQ-industry reason for doing that?
The only thing I'm getting hung up on is the placement of "sauce" over the body of the donkey. This is a very minor gripe, though, and your drop shadow solution does work. Honestly, in this lockup, I really don't see any other options for it.
@Jon Stapp | atomicvibe - yeah man, again I completely agree with you. I had "SAUCE" grounding the donkey, at its feet, but they wanted it closer to the "GOOD (ASS) BBQ" - wasn't really anywhere else to work it in, so I think I did a job making it work. Thanks for the feedback - I truly appreciate it!
I, too, think you did a fantastic job matching your design to the clients desires. I think this turned out great.
@Steely Oh! Holy crap! I didn't even see the title of this shot. Good (ASS) BBQ Sauce. I TOTALLY get it now. Jeez. I'm slow on the uptake this a.m. Well, now that that mystery is solved, yeah, I totally see why they requested that particular placement of the ass of the ass.
One thing, though: Is their company *really* named "Good Ass BBQ Sauce," or is it "Good BBQ Sauce," and they're hoping people read the donkey as "ass" as a humorous added bonus? Because, as much as it's hilarious with the ass in the middle, I think a lot of people will be like me and not read it as "Good Ass BBQ Sauce." Don't get me wrong, I *really* love this, but I'm not sure it reads as intended. Could just be me, though. Because when I saw this, I read it as "Good BBQ Sauce," and to me, the donkey symbolized getting kicked in the ass with good flavor — which I thought was pretty clever.
I wonder if you could do a mini focus group test to see how people read it? You know, show it to like 10 different people at 10 different times and ask them to read it.
@Jared Hill - thanks man!
@Jon Stapp | atomicvibe - the company is really called "Good Ass BBQ" but they said they can't write "Ass" in the logo or label, so I wasn't really sure how else to convey it other than sticking the ass of an ass between the two word. I agree that it isn't ideal, but I think it's the best solution.
@Steely Well, whether or not people actually read the donkey as "ass" in the name, I think you did the best with what you were given, and the mark still looks fantastic.
This is freakin fantastic Steely, your work has been so good lately man...I've been watchin for a while but your game has seriously elevated.
@Sean Glass - thanks brother! Appreciate the kinds words for sure!
Definitely like it!
