I'm in the process of creating a new identity for myself. I've been a bit unsure on my current one (left) as I feel it's a pretty boring and just had an idea (right) so thought I better mock it up while its still fresh in my mind.
Just want to know what everyone thinks of both and whether I should stick to my current one - look forward to all your comments and appreciate any help!
All due respect, but the one on the right is more 'boring' to me. Your current one is much more visually pleasing and has interest. Maybe try it in white on a black circle?
Thanks for your honesty Stuart, I've asked a few people and one of them said the same thing so it all helps me. The only thing is with regards to the circle treatment, I'm worried its being applied to so many designs at the moment that its losing its impact and originality even though I'm a big fan of it..
I think your current logo is definitely more distinctive. The one on the right looks more like a UI element for something than a personal mark. Also, there might be some question as to whether it's an N or a house.
I really like the stamp quality of your current logo, and the scripty curves. While I'm a redesign junkie myself, I think what you've got in this case is interesting enough that your best bet might be to try to work in the P in some clever way. The left side of the current logo looks sort of like a P - maybe that's a start?
Thanks for commenting Chris, I also got told by another person that they see a house and I understand where the house visual is coming from. My current logo has been mistaken for a '96' and an elephant before so maybe I need to tweak it a bit. I also thought about some how introducing some form of colour?
Fair point, the aforementioned may be becoming a cliche. At least it would let you see it in a new light, maybe to then develop it to something 'fresh' to your eyes.
I feel a simple reduction of your current marks extraneous features will help to maintain your brand integrity and public recognition while still offering the fresh look you're hoping for. It will also clarify your mark and start to remove the confusion issues you've encountered. This may bring some inspiration and relief to your process as well. http://www.designassembly.org/2010/09/03/when-to-leave-the-logo-alone/
