Earth Day 2020 - Clean Energy Usage Filter

As our daily lives continue to adapt to the restrictions of COVID-19, the makeup of our carbon footprints adapt, too. We’re driving significantly less, cancelling travel plans and our general consumption is likely at an all time low.

Because of this pandemic, major cities are seeing the lowest levels of pollution in decades, overall electricity consumption is down, and renewable energy is growing. Earth Day 2020 is a monumental opportunity for us to alter our habits in the direction of a zero-carbon future!

One great way to do that is by contacting your utility provider and switching to clean energy! If you’re in my area, DTE offers an easy way enroll in their wind and solar program. I’m feeling #blessed to work on a platform that empowers users to be energy-aware and efficient. This Clean Energy filter shows customers what portion of their usage is contributed to green power.

Some other eco-friendly habits to pick up while in isolation:
• Try plant-based recipes
• Learn how to compost your food waste
• Open the windows as the weather warms up
• Walk or ride your bike to the grocery store
• Read a good book instead of streaming
• Plant a garden (if you’re able to safely acquire the materials)
• Teach yourself a new skill. Mine was character animation!
