This is still rough, figuring out the kinks, and there's a few things going on that wont make sense yet. But I thought I'd show you what I've been up to.
Thoughts on the placement of the Inbox? Which do you prefer Inside or Between?
Icons used are Batch from @Adam Whitcroft. Thanks!

My name is next to @Kerem Suer 's photo.... people are gonna think I'm handsome!
@Jed Bridges haha! The avatars to the left are going to be dimmed and color coordinated to their "groups" color. When clicking on a avatar, it will show either the one-on-one chat or a group chat, whatever one was initiated.
The inbox to the right doesn't relate really to the icons on the left, which I was afraid of confusion since it isn't finished yet, and still a wip.
There's still a lot that's going to be updated in my next shot that will hopefully tie things together.
Ahhh I see, well its looking great! You should add a title to that row : )
@Jed Bridges nice idea, I'll try that :)ty
its nice Brandon :)
Personally, I prefer the icon/status inside the container. Side note: what do the different color dots represent? May want to look into some sort of icon to go with the color to help with color blind users.
YUMMMMM. Looking great.
@Andrey S. Rodrigues ☝ thanks : )
@Jason Krieger thanks for the input! that's what I was thinking as well, but thought I'd see how it look the other way as well, since, it's not as common as I've seen.
The colors are representing what Group that specific user is with. Which you can view the groups on the left hand side where Monday's and Tuesday's Class are. The classes are supposed to be colored as well, but the bg was clashing with it, so I'm changing a few things.
Thanks for the icon suggestion, I'll give it a whirl
@Joel Beukelman thanks Joel. Did you read the email you sent? You're lifting more than Ahhhhnallddd! Rad dude! Haha.

Updated – I haven't had much time to work on this... been working on the logo. This is how I left it last, a few things changed, but it's still not set in stone. I still need to figure out how I'm going to separate the messages...
