Five years ago today, the encide community launched. Our online society has blossomed into a living and breathing network of creative professionals. After nine months of exploring concepts, mood boards, sketches, vectorized iterations, design compositions, and a billion sleepless nights, I am pleased to unveil our new visual identity and branding.
The logomark is simple, beautiful, scalable, and respectful of our origins. The novel monogram combines a capital e with a capital c. Those two letters were carefully chosen because they are the first letters in each of encide's two syllables. Furthermore, the c exists inside the e to be playful with the conspicuous homonym. The utility of the 45 degree angle is reminiscent of Jeff Nielsen's (@jeffnielsen) original logomark which conveniently disguises the monogrammatic treatment of letter forms to boast our versatile culture.
Lastly, the wordmark was custom designed to accentuate the mark while symbolizing our adoration of the technical and futuristic form that is resolute, even in the transient world of design.
We've had over 175,000 posts in over 7,000 threads with an average of 17 people online at a time every day since we started. Not bad for an invite only forum. Happy 5th birthday to everyone encide! :)
...I assure you that this milestone doesn't even scratch the surface of what is coming. Stay tuned.

Great re-brand and great post, Tim. I can't wait to see what's in store for this community.
Amazing description Tim, indeed it's been an incredible journey for all of us Encide. Can't wait to see what's next. As for the new branding I love it in every sense of the word, excellent work boss.
Happy to see this, Tim.
Pretty cool! I liked seeing those initial comps and sketches.
Nice one Timmy.
Looking good Tim. Happy Birthday to Encide!
Glad to be a family member, Tim but personally I think the old one is better :)
Well done Tim, happy birthday!
I will be plain honest.
About the logotype, I don't like the typo. I see the "fantasy interface" inspiration there, but I don't think it is a good choice. Too sharp on the edges, the "i" isn't clear enough.
About the logomark I would completely remove all effects, I certainly like the shape, but somehow I prefer the older one.
Anyway, happy birthday to encide! :) 5 years past crazy fast. To more 5, 10, 25, etc... years!
@Jon Fitzsimmons @Nigel Evans @Lewis Bell @Jeremiah Shaw @Ismet @Luca Ferrone @An1ken Creative @Daniel Sandvik - Thanks for the comments & support everyone, I'm also amazed at how quickly time has gone by. To 5 more years! :)
@Cosmin Negoita @Eduardo Santos - I appreciate your honest thoughts you guys, as always. I will always have an appreciation of the original mark, and as can be seen in my sketches & artboards, I went to great lengths to try to retain it, but ultimately decided to go with something completely new for good reasons. Some of my concerns with the original mark include; it wasn't designed scale (especially for favicons & fantasy interfaces), the shape was too complex to redraw based on passive memory, and it was too thin for printing, meaningful visual effects, and 3D renders that I wanted to create. My hope is that the new mark will win you guys over with time. :) Also, the original version didn't have a wordmark, it was just the lowercase e/c monogram. It goes without saying that designing logos to represent a group of hard working, tasteful designers is a nearly impossible task. Admittedly, the challenge in and of itself is an incredibly motivating opportunity! I'm confident in the new direction, and as I hinted, the upcoming plans are exciting, and the new brand is an important piece of that puzzle. ;)
@Tim Silva Encide is what it is for the members, so as long as we maintain our quality, the logo doesn't really matter for me :)
Happy birthday all
I feel bad for not being active much lately, but I've always considered myself an encider. The logo is pretty cool.
I like it especially in that simple mode. Somehow though I see the typo being small letters though. Still, pretty cool Tim
Happy 5th to our little community! We rock 8D
Amazing description Tim, I really like the new logo branding can't wait for what's coming in the near future.
