I polished things a bit more. I should mention, this is a progressive enhancement on top of a select element. jQuery wraps targeted select elements with a new slider, creating segments for each option in the select. When the handle is dragged, the slider updates the currently selected option and tooltips are derived from the option text.

My hope is that this approach will make it easier for screen readers to interact with custom sliders.
