Designer + Illustrator
Column Five is looking to hire a full time or Freelance Designer + Illustrator who knows how to effectively conceptualize, iterate, and execute high quality design and illustration work. Column Five is a B2B-focused creative agency that helps brands find and tell their best stories to drive real results.
As a Designer you’ll be responsible for the execution of high quality creative for clients ranging from global tech brands to purpose-driven nonprofits. You’ll collaborate closely with a variety of talented people to plan, concept, design and develop strategy-led content and design solutions from kick-off to launch.

This Designer position reports to the EVP of Creative Experience with guidance and mentorship from our Art Directors. Please note we are looking for both full time and freelance Senior level Designers + Illustrators.
What does a Designer role look like day-to-day?
Lead and design top-notch creative, from sketch to final deliverable
Work collaboratively with other designers and other disciplines
Lead and participate in ideation sessions
Translate big picture ideas into clear actionable steps
Promote creative thinking and quality discernment among project teams and agency
Develop and propose new ways of working
Make decisions that consider budget and align with project objectives
Give and receive timely, relevant, and thoughtful feedback
Explore alternative or unexpected solutions
Present work confidently to internal teams and to our clients
DESIGNER RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Collaborate with team members to plan and produce projects of varying scale, type and challenge.
Concept and execute original design solutions that uphold and elevate our collective quality standard.
Lead and champion good design practices for file prep, design handoff, and quality assurance.
Participate in client and internal conversations on design thinking and execution
Manage timelines, deadlines, and your own personal bandwidth
REQUIREMENTS FOR A DESIGNER/ILLUSTRATOR AT COLUMN FIVE
You are an experienced graphic designer and a strong illustrator, having worked for an agency or in-house brand for at least 3 years
You are highly skilled in fundamental design principles, you were one of the best designers in your class
You have solid knowledge of specialized design skills
You are proficient with Adobe Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop and Figma
You have education in graphic design (or a related field)
You have experience in a professional design environment and are experienced scoping work and meeting deadlines
You have humility to listen, grow, and learn

COMPENSATION Compensation is dependent upon experience. We do not pay based on the location of the employee, rather based on the market rates in Orange County, CA. We are looking for both Freelance and Full Time Senior Designers/Illustrators
LOCATION We are a distributed- or remote-first company. This means that we are open to working with you if you live anywhere within the USA.
