   This is old.. but just to let you know.. there's a super easy way to design for the facebook stuff. Simply design it at 160x160.. then when you're ready to upload add 10 white pixels on the left & right. Facebook only requires that the Width is 180.. When it crops the avatar then it shows your whole 160x160 image and leaves out the white bars on the left & right sides.

   Also, @Alan Horne They don't degrade nearly as bad, or even noticable if you upload PNG's instead of JPG's.

   Edit: Here's one I've done so you can click on the avatar image and see what I'm talking about with the white borders. And check out the quality of the text in the cover photo.. Doesn't degrade nearly as bad using png's - https://www.facebook.com/PalmKia
